What is functional medicine though and how can it help you? Great question, read on to find out.
What Is Functional Medicine
Functional medicine is a holistic approach to health that helps to find answers to your symptoms and illness. Functional medicine looks at the entire person, instead of only the disease. Instead of simply looking at symptoms and disease, functional medicine practitioners, like myself, consider the mind, body, and soul of each patient to promote health and well-being. Functional medicine is a systems-oriented approach to health with a goal to identify, understand, and address the underlying root causes of your symptoms and disease.
In my office, we form a partnership. Together, we review your health history, understand your symptoms, and uncover underlying factors. Using a functional medicine approach, I take into account your dietary and lifestyle habits, environmental factors, and emotional elements to create a personalized treatment plan.
Your treatment may involve nutritional strategies, supplementation, and lifestyle changes. Our goal goes beyond simply managing your symptoms. My goal is to help you repair your body, restore your balance, regain your health, get back your energy, create happiness, and reclaim your life.
Why You Should See a Functional Health Practitioner
Functional medicine doesn’t just focus on one particular condition instead it works with a variety of symptoms and health issues. In my practice, I specialize in endocrine and hormonal health but see people with a variety of other chronic or unexplained symptoms as well.
The most common concerns patients see my practice include:
Premenstrual symptoms (PMS) and premenstrual disorders (PMD)
Painful periods, missing or too frequent periods, and other menstrual issues
Breast health/breast cancer
Estrogen and other sex hormone imbalance
Fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome
Migraines and headaches
Blood sugar imbalance, insulin resistance, prediabetes, and diabetes
Hormonal and other health issues can be complex. Your symptoms may manifest in a variety of ways. If you are experiencing any chronic or unexplained symptoms or have been diagnosed with hormonal health or other chronic health issues, you can benefit from seeing a functional health practitioner. No matter what health issues holding you back, I recommend that you schedule an appointment with me at my functional medicine office in Freehold, NJ or a telehealth appointment from the comfort of your home.
What to Expect + My Functional Medicine Services
I love working with my patients one on one. This approach allows us to dive in deep and identify the root cause of your health problems and create a unique and individualized treatment plan. Why is this important? Everyone is different - and they should be treated this way with a personalized and holistic approach.
As we understand your unique body and personal challenges, we can create a plan that works for you. I truly believe that your body has the ability to heal itself when you have the right personalized treatment plan considering all - nutritional, lifestyle, emotional, and environmental - factors. This is what I can help you with as we work together.
If you haven’t been to a functional medicine doctor, you probably want to know what to expect. My methods are considerably different than working with a conventional doctor. Whether you choose an in-person or a telehealth visit, I will welcome you in a warm and safe atmosphere. Our first appointment will last for about an hour. This is considerably longer than your regular short doctor’s visits - and you will be working directly with me instead of assistants or nurses.
Our goal is to identify underlying patterns and issues that may be causing your symptoms and health issues. This is key to a successful treatment plant and a lasting outcome. During your first visit, we will go over your health history, symptoms and concerns, dietary and lifestyle patterns, and other potential contributing factors, such as your environment, stress, and emotions. Your first visit includes a physical exam, Nutrition Response Testing (a muscle testing protocol), and a heart rate variability test. I will recommend various functional medicine testing through various labs if they are necessary.
During your follow-up visit, we will review your lab results and I will offer a personalized treatment protocol to help to regain your health. Your 15-minute follow-up visits are action-packed and solution-focused to get you on the right track. My diverse experience and expertise in advanced metabolic endocrine medicine, Nutrition Response Testing, applied kinesiology, chiropractic, acupuncture, Active Release Techniques™, and energy medicine helps me to create a truly holistic and integrative plan for you.
