The Effect of Fibromyalgia on Healthy Weight

Fibromyalgia can leave many women struggling to achieve healthy weight loss and wondering how to lose weight at home due to nonstop fibromyalgia symptoms severely impeding their ability to visit the gym or attend a beloved fitness class. It’s very common for a woman diagnosed with fibromyalgia to experience an increase in weight due to factors directly and indirectly related to the disease.

What is fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is widespread musculoskeletal pain, often accompanied by poor sleep and feelings of fatigue. It disrupts your hormonal balance by affecting your thyroid, insulin, serotonin, and cortisol levels. Not only do changes in your hormones slow your metabolism and lead to weight gain, but the effects of fibromyalgia, including fatigue, poor sleep, and chronic pain, can restrict your ability to exercise.

 

What triggers fibromyalgia?

A fibromyalgia flare up can occur when your body shifts out of balance, as is the case when you are stressed, eat a lot of fatty or sugary food, are feeling depressed, or have recently undergone surgery. Changes in temperature and weather can also play a role.

 

What can you take for fibromyalgia?

As of now, there is no definitive cure for fibromyalgia, but there are many natural remedies for fibromyalgia pain to ease your symptoms, reduce weight gain, and help you feel like your old self again:

 

- Diet: Eating the best diet for fibromyalgia can make all the difference. I encourage you to avoid inflammatory foods such as animal fats from red meat. Instead, enjoy turkey, chicken, and fish for a good dose of protein. Coldwater fish are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help to bring down inflammation. Don’t shy away from sources of healthy fats, such as avocados, olive oils, and almonds.

 

- Light exercises: Even though you may not feel like moving, it’s important to engage in daily fibromyalgia exercise tactics such as stretching, walking, and biking. Over time, you can increase the duration and intensity of your exercise to develop a more fulfilling and effective exercise regime.

 

- Melatonin: The same hormone that helps promote sleep can also improve fibromyalgia chronic pain when taken as a pill. Furthermore, its ability to help you sleep means it can also speed up metabolism while you are resting.

 

- Wellness remedies: Reiki, yoga, and acupuncture have all been shown to provide effective fibromyalgia treatment because they help to balance the body and stabilize hormones. In addition, some patients find that these practices also increase their metabolism.
